So Ashton probably won't admit defeat, and he had a pretty good week, but 9-4 just doesn't compare to an 11-2 week. Sorry bud, but now that I'm back in a rhythm, it's tough to outpick your elder ;).
Now that I got my gloating out of the way, I can do a few sentences of analysis for each game. I would go into more detail, but company flew into town this weekend, so I'm busy hosting them.
New York Jets @ Buffalo: This will be a pretty close game (Buffalo is anywhere between a 1.5- 3 point favorite), but the fact remains that Buffalo's defense will hold up fine against a mediocre Jets offense while the Jets defense will struggle against one of the surprisingly good offenses this year. Never expected Ryan Fitzpatrick (a former Bengals backup) would be doing this much in the NFL, but props to him.
BUFFALO
Seattle @ Dallas: Do I even need to review this game? Dallas has a decent team, the reason they've been struggling so much is because they've had a relatively difficult schedule. The Cowboys ran over St. Louis, there's no reason they won't do the same at home to the Seahawks.
DALLAS
Cleveland @ Houston: Another no-brainer. Houston can still perform extremely well without one or two key offensive players- Andre Johnson and/or Arian Foster- and Cleveland is probably the third-worst team in the AFC, ahead of Indianapolis & Miami.
HOUSTON
Atlanta @ Indianapolis: Speaking of awful teams, Indianapolis without Peyton Manning is starting to be on par with the old Tampa Bay Buccaneers (their first two years in the league were abysmal). Atlanta, however, is only 1-2 on the road, and their only road win was a narrow 2 point win at Seattle. Atlanta currently is an 8 point favorite; I'm not confident Atlanta will cover the spread, but I'm less confident in the Colts' ability to score points & stop the run.
ATLANTA
Miami @ Kansas City: Kansas City is a respectable team. Miami is, for lack of a better phrase, pretty damn awful. I don't see Kansas City looking over any opponents, though, so this shouldn't be close at all.
KANSAS CITY
Tampa Bay @ New Orleans: New Orleans will bounce back from the embarrassment against St. Louis. Tampa Bay also is an awful road team (probably as bad as Atlanta), so Drew Brees will have a good time getting back on track.
NEW ORLEANS
San Francisco @ Washington: Washington is respectable this year, but San Fran is 6-1 with the one loss coming in OT. The football scene is heating up in the Bay Area, and San Francisco will keep the trend going with a win in the nation's capital.
SAN FRANCISCO
Denver @ Oakland: Tim Tebow has been exposed. It's a shame, because he's a great leader & a morally upstanding guy, but Carson Palmer + TJ Houshmanzadeh after a bye week will be too much.
OAKLAND
Cincinnati @ Tennessee: What happened to Chris Johnson? He's supposed to be one of the top 2-3 running backs in the league this year, but thanks to an atrocious offense, they haven't been able to capitalize on his abilities. Cincinnati has one of the most underrated defenses this year (mostly because nobody was expecting the Bengals to be decent), and Cincinnati will improve their incredible season to 6-2 after beating down the Titans.
CINCINNATI
St. Louis @ Arizona: Both teams are awful. Both teams need a win. Difference is, since 2007 Arizona leads the head-to-head matchup 7-1. Stick with history.
ARIZONA
New York Giants @ New England: Giants are decent, but not great. New England just got beat up by the Steelers. You're sorely mistaken if you think Bill Belichick won't take his anger out on Eli Manning.
NEW ENGLAND
Green Bay @ San Diego: A lot of experts are predicting an upset here. I can't honestly figure out what they see, the Packers have no chinks in the armor and San Diego just lost a game they should have won at the Jets. Go with the team that's still undefeated, and still the reigning Super Bowl champions.
GREEN BAY
Baltimore @ Pittsburgh: REMATCH! This game will be fun to watch- it'll be hard-hitting, brash, and an old-fashioned game in the trenches. Baltimore did win the first round pretty badly, but Pittsburgh has looked better and better each week. I hate to do this again, but I see the Steelers barely making it through Sunday.
PITTSBURGH
Chicago @ Philadelphia: The Eagles are hot, and the Bears are pretty weak on the road. Philly looks like they're getting their act together, and who knows- they have a good chance of making a run and winning the NFC East.
